This is a super simple way to make the perfect roast chicken – Chinese style, in an air fryer. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can use an oven to bake it too. You just need to marinate the chicken for at least 3 – 4 hours, then air fry it for 20 mins and voila! See the ingredient list below for your easy reference.

Serves 2 – 3
2 tablespoons of Chinese white rice wine
2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
4 tablespoons of light soy sauce
1 teaspoon of five spice powder
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
4 cloves of garlic – lightly smashes
2 stalks of spring onion – tie into a knot
A few dashes of white pepper or black pepper
700g whole chicken
Bake at 180C for 20 mins.
Place the chicken breast side up first and airfry for 10 mins. Turn chicken over to the other side on the 10-min mark then continue to airfry for another 10 mins. Total 20 mins cooking time.
If you’re using an oven, please preheat your oven at the same baking temperature for at least 30 mins. Don’t forget to remove the chicken from the fridge 30 mins before baking.
Check if the chicken is done before serving.
To make the excess marinade into a dipping sauce to go with your chicken, simply add 1/3 cup of water, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and some cornstarch solution over fire.
